The story behind the Moonrise Quilt

Moonrise stemmed from my love of Alexia Abegg's Moonrise fabric collection. Upon seeing her fabric line I knew I needed to make something special with it, and the Moonrise quilt was born. I kept calling it my moonrise quilt, so when I decided to pattern it the name stuck around. The pattern works beautifully for all styles and combinations, from using a full fabric line, to selecting your own fabrics, to a scrappy style, or even solids. There is so much flexibility with this one.

About the Pattern

The Moonrise quilt comes with all 4 sizes in one PDF: baby (45" x 51"), throw (57" x 63"), twin (69" x 87"), and queen (81" x 99"). Each size has its own dedicated page with individual yardage requirements for multiple fabric combinations, cutting instructions, and layout diagrams. I also include cutting diagrams for fat quarters and yardage, a printable coloring sheet, and construction diagrams.

The quilt is pieced with a 1/4" seam allowance and is constructed in columns sewn top to bottom rather than the more common rows-sewn-together method. The pattern takes a little bit of planning for fabric layout, but once that's done the cutting and construction go quickly. The pattern is fat quarter friendly. Skill level is beginner to advanced.

One Pattern, Endless Options

A few fun ways you can make this pattern your own.

1

Scrappy version

Use tons of different fabrics for the plus signs and background for a scrappy, eclectic look. A great way to use up scrap fabrics.

2

Curated fabric line

Pull from a single fabric collection for a cohesive, coordinated look. The pattern was originally inspired by Alexia Abegg's Moonrise fabric collection.

3

Solids version

Use solid fabrics for a clean, modern look. The plus-sign design really pops with bold solid colors.

4

Custom color story

Go warm with harvest oranges and ambers, cool with blues and silvers, or classic with cream and gold on deep navy. The flexibility is endless.
