The story behind the New Star Quilt

I designed New Star specifically for beginners, it's written to teach you how to quilt. The pattern itself is a fresh, modern take on the classic star block, but what makes it special is the free 8-week companion course that goes along with it. The course lives on the blog and YouTube, with weekly prompts that walk you through making a quilt from start to finish. You can follow along week by week or go at your own pace. Either way, by the end you'll have a finished quilt and the skills to keep going.

About the Pattern

The pattern is a 20-page PDF with fabric requirements, cutting instructions, and sewing instructions with diagrams. The cover quilt measures 66" square, but the pattern includes information on how to custom design your own size or layout, including the math to make it work. Skill level is beginner, and the pattern was written specifically to learn how to quilt. The blocks go together quickly and the result is a clean, graphic design that looks far more advanced than it actually is.

One Pattern, Endless Options

A few fun ways you can make this pattern your own.

1

Two-color

Keep it simple with just two fabrics for a bold, graphic look.

2

Scrappy stars

Use a different fabric for each star block for a scrappy, modern feel.

3

Custom size

The pattern includes math and guidance to design your own size or layout. Add more blocks, change the arrangement, or adjust borders to fit your vision.

What Makers Are Saying

★★★★★

I love quilt patterns with starts in them and this one is extra fun looking! The instructions are very well written- I look forward to making several of these quilts.

I chose this pattern to use for my first ever quilt because of the accompanying course on the designer's website. I just got started but already wanted to write a glowing review because of how easy and well-explained everything is :) The PDF in itself contains a wealth of information that goes beyond just piecing together quilt blocks and I've even ventured into "designing" my own version for the fabrics I had (math and everything included!). Add to that the blog posts and videos that the designer provides and I already know I'm on my way to a very successful first quilt. Thanks a million for this incredible resource <3
