The story behind the Oh Christmas Tree Quilt

The Oh Christmas Tree Quilt has been a long time coming. I started designing it in fall of 2024, it actually began at a Quilt'N'Sisters retreat where I adapted my Something Wicked pattern with a star topper and some ornaments. I realized it would make an amazing standalone pattern and when I got home I started altering the tree templates to elongate the tree. I made three versions during testing, including a pink tree with light strings. Nine months later, here it is.

About the Pattern

The pattern comes with 4 files: the main quilt pattern PDF, traditional piecing templates, FPP templates, and light string FPP templates. The finished quilt measures 60" x 72". You can traditionally piece the entire quilt, FPP the entire quilt, or mix and match both methods, the tree angle blocks and star topper have templates for both. There are 5 traditionally pieced ornament options and 6 FPP ornament options. The only exclusively FPP elements are the background stars and light strings. Coloring sheets for both the plain tree and light string versions are included. Skill level is intermediate, and knowledge of HST, snowball, stitch'n'flip, and FPP is needed.

One Pattern, Endless Options

A few fun ways you can make this pattern your own.

1

All traditional piecing

Skip FPP entirely and traditionally piece the tree blocks, star topper, and 5 traditionally pieced ornament options.

2

All FPP

Go full FPP for the tree blocks, star topper, and choose from 6 FPP ornament options for crisp, precise results.

3

Mix and match

The beauty of this pattern is mixing both methods. FPP the tree and traditionally piece the ornaments, or vice versa. It's completely up to you.

4

Add light strings

FPP light strings weave between the branches for extra sparkle. I even made a pink tree version with lights during testing!
