The story behind the Sardine Tin FPP

The Sardine Tin FPP blocks have been a spot of joy to design. I simplified a few sections during the final stretch based on tester feedback, reducing some itty bitty pieces while keeping the look intact. There are still some tiny pieces (it is FPP after all), but overall the construction is smart and the results are worth it. The four blocks are each a little bit different, the two horizontal blocks look identical but the construction changes between them, and the vertical blocks have their own layout and look.

About the Pattern

This pattern includes 7 files: the main FPP pattern instructions, four FPP template files (one per block size/orientation), 3D tin sewing instructions with photographs, and quilt instructions for a 60" x 72" layout with five blocks. The pattern includes fabric requirements, diagrams with sewing order for each block, and coloring sheets. A companion video for the 3D tin construction is linked within the pattern. FPP experience is recommended. I would say intermediate or advanced FPP sewists will enjoy this most. The blocks take time and have a few tiny pieces in some sections, but overall they're a normal FPP pattern.

Companion Video

A companion video linked within the pattern walks you through sewing the 3D Sardine Tin step by step. This is especially helpful since sewing a 3D item is trickier than a flat quilt block.
