The story behind the Stargeese Quilt

I love the star center surrounded by flying geese, it's a unique star quilt look and a unique way of construction. The block plays really well with both a single fabric background and a scrappy background, and the detailed cutting directions make it easy to customize fabric placement however you want.

About the Pattern

The pattern includes three sizes: baby (45" x 45"), throw (60" x 75"), and twin (75" x 90"), with yardages and cutting diagrams for all three. The construction is the same for each size. You can also easily make a custom size since yardage per block is included. The pattern is traditionally pieced with clear diagrams alongside the written instructions, plus printable coloring sheets for planning your colors.

This is a fat quarter quilt, but it works just as well with yardage or a scrappy approach. Skill level is intermediate to advanced. I would not recommend this for your first quilt. Knowledge of HSTs, hourglass blocks, and flying geese is needed.

One Pattern, Endless Options

A few fun ways you can make this pattern your own.

1

Scrappy geese

Use a different fabric for each flying geese unit for a scrappy, dynamic look. The geese surround the star center so there are lots of spots to mix things up.

2

Custom star placement

While the pattern shares a specific way to arrange fabric in the block, you can easily modify it to have all matching stars or centers using the detailed cutting directions.

3

Fat quarter friendly

This is a fat quarter quilt through and through, but it works just as well with yardage or a scrappy approach.
