The story behind the Strawberry Pillow

I've been following the joy this past year when it comes to sewing, and strawberries just kept calling to me. I think I have a strong tie to them because one of my grandmas had a full-on strawberry kitchen. When I was growing up and we would visit her, a 12-hour drive away. I always loved all the strawberry things in her kitchen. I have the sweetest white pitcher with strawberries on it from her kitchen now, sitting in mine as a reminder of her. She also had that quintessential jar of strawberry candies in her formal living room. I think my grandma would have absolutely loved to have one of these in her cozy spot in her kitchen.

I spent quite a bit of time hand-drafting these strawberries. I went through about eight different shapes before I got the tall strawberry right, then a few more to get the short one correct. The tactile approach to sketching and cutting and figuring out a design with paper instead of a computer works best for me.

About the Pattern

The pattern comes with four files: sewing instructions with diagrams, and three template files for the small, medium, and large sizes. There are six size options total across two styles (tall and short), each in large, medium, and small, plus a bonus tiny strawberry at just 4", perfect for bag charms or ornaments. Every style and size is sewn the same way. There's also instructions to make your strawberry "friendly" with a face a legs.

The strawberries are made with quilting cotton and optional fusible fleece (which gives a less lumpy result once stuffed). There are two options for sewing the leaf top, plus a couple options for how to attach the leaf top. A companion video link is included in the pattern to walk you through the whole process. Skill level is advanced beginner, knowledge of sewing stuffies or 3D items is handy.

Companion Video

A step-by-step companion video walks you through the entire Strawberry Pillow construction. The link is included inside the pattern PDF.

One Pattern, Endless Options

A few fun ways you can make this pattern your own.

1

Friendly strawberry

The most adorable fruit you'll ever make!

2

Tall strawberry

An elongated strawberry shape in large, medium, and small. This is the classic strawberry silhouette, taller and more tapered at the top.

3

Short strawberry

A rounder, wider strawberry shape in large, medium, and small. These have a plumper look and sit differently than the tall version.

4

Tiny strawberry

A 4-inch version that's perfect for bag charms, Christmas tree ornaments, or pincushions. Same construction as the bigger sizes, just miniaturized.
